[edit]On 22.09.1946, Rajarata College, which started as a mixed school under the rule of the Roman Catholic Church, was founded by the Reverend Father Sam Alexander , the former editor, with 48 students. This college was governed under the director-controlled system during 1954-1961 . The school was taken over by the government in 1961 under the government's policy of taking over schools that were run by private and various organizations. So far this college was governed under ten principals. Rajarata College, which made its way in the midst of immense obstacles and difficulties, became a college with an advanced arts department in the year 1991 . In the year 2000, the commerce department of the college started. In the midst of extreme difficulties and obstacles, in the year 2007, the A-level department of the college was started with an under-qualified permanent teacher and a volunteer teacher, and in the year 2008 , the A-level mathematics section was started. In 2010, the huge theater named Sadisi Methsiripaya was able to be acquired not only for the North Central but also for the entire Sri Lankan school system through the intervention of the Honorable Minister of Health Maithree Pala Sirisena[1] . Rajarata College is very well established its identity in educational sports and other co-curricular activities.
