Micro-Chapter Breakdown
[edit]Part I - 10,207 AG
[edit]- (p.1?) - Heighliner arrives at Caladan bearing Qizarate envoy who brings Jessica word of Paul's disappearance into desert a month earlier along with news that she is a grandmother. Alia is regent, Irulan imprisoned, Chani and Mohiam dead, Duncan "aiding" Alia, Stilgar still loyal. Bronso of Ix (somehow escaped from his death cell) stirring it up since Paul's demise. (YAWN)
- Presumably Jessica decides to return to Arrakis to see things for herself, because...
- In one scene (the one depicted on the announced cover illustration), Jessica and Alia visit a busy Arrakeen marketplace.
- Later, Jessica returns to Sietch Tabr to see for herself the place from which her son disappeared.
- Jessica and Gurney eventually return to Caladan.
- Alia tries to hold together the Imperial government (and turbulent, crumbling empire) with Duncan.
- Paul’s former childhood friend and now "outspoken rebel", Bronso of Ix, leads opposition to House Atreides, doing everything he can to destroy the myth of Paul Muad’Dib and fuel the flames of dissent.
- There is a growing battle between Jessica and her daughter Alia.
- Working with Princess Irulan, Jessica tries to uncover the truth about her son; she discovers that Paul may have knowingly planted the seeds for his own downfall.
- Jessica learns that Bronxo of Ix has a secret mission of his own, one that will force Jessica to choose between the memory of her son and the future of the human race.
(The above is a mishmash derived from one sample chapter, various blog comments and jacket copy blurbs, some parts reworked, some verbatim but rearranged. IN PROGRESS)
