About Frontier Economics Limited

[edit]

Frontier Economics Ltd (Frontier) is a microeconomics consultancy firm, founded in 1999. Its chairman is Sarah Hogg, Viscountess Hailsham (also Baroness Hogg)[1]. The firm's executive directors are: Zoltan Biro, Phil Burns, Dan Elliott, Simon Gaysford, Wynne Jones, George Houpis, Chris Newton, Michael Ridge and Christoph Riechmann.

Frontier provides economics advice to public and private sector clients on matters of business strategy and strategic management, competition (antitrust), regulation and public policy.[2] Frontier regularly advises companies on matters before competition authorities (including the UK Office of Fair Trading and the UK Competition Commission). Frontier staff also regularly act as expert witnesses in litigation proceedings on a range of economic issues. For example, the company is listed in the 'Who's who' of competition economists in the Global Competition Review.[3].

The company has provided advice on a number of high profile economic issues including: the economics of the proposed River Severn Barrage;[4] mobile phone termination charges;[5] emissions trading schemes; [6] and postal sector reform and pricing.[7] Frontier staff have published articles in economics and industry journals, such as Utility Week[8] and also feature at high profile economics conferences. For example, in 2005, the firm was a sponsor of the Econometric Society World Congress. In 2008, Frontier sponsored and appeared at the Warwick Economics Summit.
