Church of Christ University Center ... The Church of Christ University Center (also known as "The UC") is a collegiate campus ministry located in Stillwater, Oklahoma. It is affiliated with the Stillwater Church of Christ, located at the corner of Duck and McElroy. The UC was founded in 1929 and has served thousands of students from the Oklahoma State University campus over that time. Currently, the UC serves between 200-300 students. The ministry is overseen by the leadership of several ministers, including Monty Mitchell Daffern, who has served the UC since 1991, Matt Willard Mills, who has served the University Center in various capacities since 2001, and Sabrina Wood, the women's ministry coordinator.
Ministries
[edit]The University Center boasts a multitude of ministries to provide for the diverse group of students that form its body. First, the UC is very active in intramural sports. Every year there are roughly ten flag football teams that are comprised of UC students. Other intramural sports that UC students are traditionally involved in are innertube water polo, soccer, basketball, handball, softball, and kickball. Notably, the UC is exceptionally competitive in ultimate frisbee, progressing deep into the playoffs in 2010, 2011, and 2012. "Lifegroups" are another large ministry area. Lifegroups are small groups of UC students that meet on- and off-campus to do various things, such as read the Bible, pray, sing songs, or simply play Dungeons and Dragons. There are also several retreats every year in which groups of students leave Stillwater and travel to campgrounds in order to fellowship and grow closer to God.
Worship
[edit]The UC gathers to worship several times throughout the week during the school year. "Praise Service" is the highlight of many OSU students' week, which is a time for students to come together to sing songs to God and hear a speaker. Other worship times include Sunday morning at 9 and 10:15, and Sunday night at 5 pm.
Notable Alumni
