Blocks are usually imposed to protect Wikipedia from damage or disruption; sometimes, however, an editor may request that his account be blocked for his own good, for instance to enforce a wikibreak. Wikipedia's blocking policy says that "typically, such requests are refused".

This does not mean that the imposition of self-requested blocks is disallowed under all circumstance; some administrators, myself included, are willing to accept such a request, provided it meets the following conditions.

The ones listed below are my personal requirements; they are not binding on any other admin and I may decline to block you even if your request meets all of them.

Conditions

1. You must have a registered account and be a significant contributor. Requests from accounts with brief editing histories or shared ip addresses will not be considered.
2. You must have a specific time frame for which you wish to be blocked. Open-ended requests will not be considered.
3. The block term should be for a significant period of time.
4. You will be hardblocked, meaning that I will disable account creation and will enable autoblock; furthermore, I will remove your ability to edit your talk page and to use Wikipedia's email system. This is meant to prevent you from appealing the block, since it imposed pursuant to your request.
5. You must not have any recent warnings for vandalism or other bad-faith edits.
6. You must not be "under a cloud." If there is a current discussion at the admin noticeboard or elsewhere regarding a possible block of your account your request will not be considered.
7. If you have ever been blocked for abusing multiple accounts your request will not be considered.
8. If you evade your block, I will immediately increase your self-requested block to indefinite and block the sock account.
