The Conquer Club

Conquer Club was established early in the year of 2006. Now in it's third year it has grown to over 250,000 members. "Conquer Club is an online multiplayer world domination game. Designed for the casual gamer, playing Conquer Club is not a time consuming process. You can take your turn in 5 minutes with your morning cup of coffee or in between classes. A game typically lasts several days, but hardcore risk takers can play multiple games at once and stay up all night strategizing their next move."[1]


How To Play

"Each turn consists of 3 parts: I. Deploying Your Troops

At the beginning of every turn you will collect a certain amount of troops. The number of troops you get is determined by this formula:

(regions ÷ 3, minimum of 3) + zone bonus + spoils bonus

Terminology: "regions" are the total number of regions you occupy. "zone bonus" are bonus troops you get for occupying all of the regions that make up a zone. "spoils bonus" is the number of troops you get for turning in a group of spoils.

What's a group of spoils? You earn spoils at the end of every turn in which you successfully conquer a region, just like reality! These spoils each represent a region on the map and can be blue, green or red. If you acquire 3 spoils of any one colour, or one of each, you now have a "group" of spoils which you may exchange for additional troops at this time. The value of these spoils depends on which spoils game option was chosen: escalating or flat-rate. You also get a 2 troop bonus on any region that you own if it is represented in the group.

You will place your troops on any regions that you occupy. The game will ask you for the name of a region, and how many troops to place there, and will continue doing this until all of your troops are deployed. Once you deploy troops, there's no changing your mind, so give this some thought first! II. Assaulting Your Enemies

You may now assault any opponent's region from one of yours, as long as both regions are adjacent and your assaulting region has a minimum of two troops. This part is optional in that you may choose not to assault anyone.

Each time combat is initiated, the game engine will generate a random intensity level for each troop involved. The outcome is determined by the intensity of the assaulting troops versus the intensity of the repelling troops. There are 6 possible intensity levels that may be assigned, listed here from weakest to strongest:

  1. Pathetic
  2. Sad
  3. Decent
  4. Strong
  5. Awesome
  6. Heroic

The more troops involved on either side, the better the chances that side has of winning. But not all troops in the regions are necessarily involved. To be more specific, the game engine will assigned a random intensity level for each assaulting troop, less 1 troop that stays behind, up to a maximum of 3 troops. Likewise, the game engine will assign a random intensity level for each repelling troop, up to a maximum of 2 troops.

The outcome of combat is determined by comparing the strongest intensity levels of either side. If the assault was stronger, then the repelling region loses a troop. If the repel was stronger or equal, than the assaulting region loses a troop. This process is repeated once more if other troops remain involved on both sides.

If you destroy all of the troops in your opponent's region, you will then have to occupy it right away by advancing some of your troops (but not all and at least 1) from your assaulting region to the conquered region. If you conquer a player's last region, (thus eliminating him/her from the game) the former opponent's spoils become yours!

During this part of your turn, you may assault any adjacent regions, as many times as possible, until you decide to stop. For example, you may assault one or more times from one region, switch to another region and then back to the original. III. Reinforcing Your Regions

When you are finished your assults, you may reinforce your repelling position. If desired, you may move some (but not all) of the troops from one of your regions to any connected region which you also occupy. The Reinforcements game option will determine how many of these reinforcement plays are allowed."[2]

To spice things up, you can play on various maps, each having its own configuration of regions and zones. Game Type

In a standard game each player fends for himself and there is only one winner.

In a terminator game you get points for the players that you eliminate. When players are auto-kicked in a terminator game their troops remain on the map, and you can still get points (and spoils) from them if you eliminate the deadbeat before the game is over (otherwise their points are awarded to the game winner).

In an assassin game each player is assigned a secret target, designated in-game with crosshairs Assassin Target next to the username. You win the game if your target is killed - whether it be by you or another player! When a player is auto-kicked in an assassin game, the game continues and whomever had the deadbeat now has to kill the deadbeat's target.

To play a team game, try doubles, triples and quadruples. Quadruples games must be played with 8 players, triples games with 6 players, doubles games with 4 or 6 or 8. Teammates are determined by the sequence of players, for example the first two players and second two players make up two teams in a doubles game. In team games, you can deploy on and reinforce your teammate's regions. The score is calculated per team. When a player is auto-kicked in a team game, the first surviving teammate inherits the troops and spoils. Play Order

In a sequential game player 1 is first, then player 2, then player 3, etc. Sequential games are slower but straightforward. When playing a sequential game with teams the order is staggered, alternating between teams.

In a freestyle game it doesn't matter in which order players take their turns. Players can even play simultaneously! After the last player takes his turn, a new round begins immediately. The player who triggers a new round is blocked from taking a second back-to-back turn and must wait until either an opponent begins their turn or half of the round passes. Spoils

Escalating groups are worth 4,6,8,10,12,15,20... (i.e. the first group of spoils turned in by any player is worth 4 troops, the second group is worth 6, etc.)

Flat Rate groups are worth 4 for red, 6 for green, 8 for blue and 10 for mixed. Reinforcements

With chained reinforcements, you can reinforce once and from a region connected by regions you own.

With adjacent reinforcements, you can reinforce once and only from a direct neighbour. This requires you to plan your deployment and advances more carefully.

With unlimited reinforcements, you can reinforce as many times as you like from regions connected by regions you own. This makes the game easier and more flexible. Fog of War

The fog of war masks enemy positions that are not adjacent to your forces (or your team's forces). It also masks region and zone names in the log. Private Games

To play with a select group of people, the game creator may specify a private password and pass it out as desired. Such a game is listed under the "Private Games" section of "Join A Game" until either it fills up or 15 days have passed, at which point it will be deleted automatically. Tournament Games

These are games belonging to a community-run tournament and are created by members with special tournament game privileges. Such a game is listed under the "Tournament Games" section of "Join A Game" until either it fills up or 15 days have passed, at which point it will be deleted automatically. To participate in a tournament (or to organize one) please visit the Tournaments section of the Forum. Speed Games

These real-time games have 5 minute rounds and automatically refresh. An extra 2.5 minutes is added to the round length when someone is eliminated. Such a game is listed under the "Speed Games" section of "Join A Game" until it fills up. If a player logouts or their session is idle for more than 15 minutes they will be automatically dropped from any waiting speed games." [3]


A large part of the Conquer Club experience is The Forum. The Forum is divided into Announcements where Administrators* post important information to the site. General Discussion where anything revolving around Conquer Club is discussed. Tournaments where people can create or join Tournaments. Callouts the home of the clans and where people can search for specific opponents. Suggestions and Bugs Reports where people can post errors to be dealt with or suggest modifications to the site. Cheating and Abuse where people post names of players not following the rules. map Foundry where new maps get made. The Tower of Babble recently renamed Much Ado about Nothing where people can discuss anything. Flame Wars where players can bash their opponents publicly. Training Grounds where you can join the society of the cooks and get some help. Will soon be home to the strategy guides.


Moderators

Administrators* are the leaders of the site. They make sure everything gets done. Hysari the current community manager oversees the rest of the moderators

Global Moderators are moderators that move all across the forum making sure everything runs smoothly. There are many divisions of this group that focus on a certain part of The Forum

Cartographersare the people that keep the good ship foundry sailing. They assist map makers in the creation of new maps and stamp the maps as they move along. They also control the Map Foundry forum

Multi Hunters are the people that catch the cheaters. They stop people that break the rules

Tournament Directors are the people that keep the tournaments coming. They help tournaments move along and run the forum. They also maintain the Hall of records
