Style

[edit]

Pilić's expression in her works are often felt by unfettered, casual expression, a multitude of witty quips and references, and dynamic and lively dialogues that makes her audience recognised her use of language of the youth. It's been reflected on her notice of the contemporary generations' social and cultural life as seen in her 1990 novel, All the Best About Mums,[2] where she presented a classical tone understandable by children and young adults. Omitting features that usually indicate a novel were one of her style of expressions such as giving a likely changeable plot and an inconsistent storyline. There is no omniscient narrator because the boundaries between the writer, the characters, and the novel itself are intertwined.[3]

Pilić's work incorporated the fact that her writings contains funny jokes written to play reality by using ludic intellectual method in writing shorter forms. Her characters like Time,.for example, decided to hurry, or the other imaginative character, Boredom in her collection I Don't Have Time, who became bored with itself, and match realistic stories about growing children as seen in Hey, I Want to Tell You Something!, or sketch stories in Oh, I'm Not Sorry; those she incorporates to make the readers curious. Pilić often uses messages of basic human values in her playful narratives. She writes about topics that are close to children but also gives them room for thinking about what is important, in a manner that is familiar to them. For instance, Maša and Christmas is not just a holiday story, but a story about the warmth of human character and empathy, as Maša organizes a holiday celebration with her friends for all those who are lonely. Maša and the Clown Is not a story about common clowns; it is a story dedicated to brave children struggling with illness and the Red Noses who help children in hospital wards.[4]
