Koji Oishi (大石 幸史, Ōishi Kōji, born May 31, 1977) is a Japanese mixed martial artist who competes in the Featherweight division. He currently fights for ONE Fighting Championship, and is the reigning Featherweight Champion and former Lightweight King of Pancrase.
Mixed martial arts career
[edit]Oishi wrestled in high school and decided to take up MMA after attending a Pancrase event, saying at the time he didn't understand the difference between MMA and pro wrestling. [1]
Ultimate Fighting Championship
[edit]Oishi made his pro debut on April 14, 2000 at UFC 25, losing to LaVerne Clark.[2] Oishi would return to the UFC to take on Nick Diaz at UFC 53 five years later, losing via KO.[3]
Pancrase
[edit]After his losing his first fight Oishi made his Pancrase debut against Mick Green. He won by majority decision. Oishi won his next 3 fights against Yoshimitsu Warita, Takaharu Murahama, and Satoru Kitaoka all by majority decision. He lost his next fight to Kiuma Kunioku by unanimous decision.
Oishi then went on a 9 fight unbeaten streak going 6-0-3 with wins over Daisuke Hanazawa, Heath Sims, and UFC vet Chris Lytle. His streak was eventually broken by Hidehiko Hasegawa via toe hold. Oishi then faced Hanazawa in a rematch at Pancrase - Spiral 3. He won via KO.
After loss to Nick Diaz, Oishi returned to Pancrase to take on Diaz's younger brother Nate Diaz. He won via decision. His next fight ended in a draw against Paul Rodriguez, and then lost his next two fights against Daizo Ishige & UFC vet Carlos Condit.Oishi snapped his two fight losing streak by dropping down to lightweight and winning his next two fights of his own against In Seok Kim & Hiroyuki Nozawa. He was then stopped by former Pancrase Lightweight Champion Katsuya Inoue, via 2nd round KO.
Oishi return to Pancrase yet again at Pancrase - Shining 3 to take on Shoji Maruyama. The fight ended in a draw. Oishi then capped off a victory of UFC vet Naoyuki Kotani via decision. He was then offered a shot at the Pancrase Lightweight Championship against Katsuya Inoue. Oishi yet again beaten by Inoue.
Oishi then went 4-0-4 in his next eight fights earning himself another shot at the title this time against Isao Kobayashi. He was again unable to capture the belt. He then made drop to featherweight and making his 145 debut against former Pancrase Featherweight Champion Jon Shores. He won via decision. Oishi next fight ended in another draw this time against then-reigning featherweight champion Takumi Nakayama.
Various Promotions

One Fighting Championship
[edit]Oishi made a name for himself when he was signed by ONE FC and offered an immediate shot at reigning Featherweight Champion Honorio Banario at ONE Fighting Championship - Rise to Power on May 31st. The Japanese fighter came from behind to win by second round TKO. [5]
Oishi described winning the ONE FC belt as the greatest achievement of his career [6] and it was announced that his first defence would be against Banario in the same venue at ONE Fighting Championship - Moment of Truth on December 6th. [7]
The outcome of the rematch with Banario was the same as the first fight with Oishi winning by TKO, this time in the third round. [8]
