General Information

I am editing bird pages as needed as an assignment for my AEC501 "Ornithology" course at NC State University. Mostly small edits. This page about myself serves as good practice for editing or creating serious pages.

As an attempt to reach more of the general public with ornithological information, many ornithologists, students, experts, and birders are beginning to edit wikipedia pages, as wikipedia is commonly the first source to come up in a google search. Previously considered wildly inaccurate, recently wikipedia is getting new attention for how surprisingly accurate it maintains its pages, especially with how many of the experts or birders who make or edit pages continue to watch for edits to ensure their reliability.

Ornithological Interest

Currently aspiring to attend Veterinary school at NCSU with a focus area in Small Animals and Exotics, I have an interest in birds and their relationship to humans. Although I appreciate birds as pets, I have concerns about the number of homeless parrots and would like to work with owners to make sure they understand their pet's behavior so that they can interact with them in a healthy way and have a better chance of maintaining a positive relationship with their bird. There are many homeless birds in America and I encourage everyone who wants a pet bird to look into adoption. Parrots especially hold my heart, but I am in the process of learning many of the native wildlife species' calls and identification with my Ornithology class and I'm growing fond of them as well.

I have a beautiful red-crowned amazon named Pickles that I rescued when he was 22 years old. He didn't get much socialization when he was younger so he came to me fearing human hands and unable to socialize but he has since learned to step-up and enjoys being in the same room as people. He now preens my hair when I hold him, and he enjoys being touched on his own terms, which is currently restricted to scratching and petting his head, neck, and back. His current vocalizations include mimicking the telephone, various human whistles, saying "whatcha doin'," on top of normal amazon vocalizations, which are more common.
