Laser Skirmish edit

[edit]

Hi Sabre, thanks for the help! As you can see, my "real life" has taken up a lot of my time lately, forcing me to put the Wikipedia articles on the back burner. Seems to happen to just about everyone who steps up to this particular plate!

I hope eventually to restructure the whole category using the Paintball article as a loose guide, so that the main article best represents the wider world of the sport in general, and contains wikilinks to those articles which go into detail about specific elements of the sport:

Pursuit Sports
+ Airsoft
!
+ + Lasertag
! +-+ Commercial Arena
!  ! +- Lasertron
!  ! +- Photon
!  ! +- QZar
!  !  !- etc.
!  !
! +-+ Commercial Outdoor
!  ! +- Battlefield Sports
!  ! +- EWOW
!  ! +- FragTag
!  !  !- etc.
!  !
! +-+ Consumer (toys)
!  ! +- Action Man
!  ! +- Electronic Survivor Shot
!  ! +- Lazer Tag
!  ! +- Photon
!  ! +- etc.
!  !
! +-+ Homebuilt
!  ! +- MilesTag
!  !  !- etc.
!  !
! +-- Modified
!
+- Nerf
!
--+ Paintball
.  !- Speedball
.  !- Woodsball
.  !- etc.

I have these listed in alphabetical order. In the real articles they should be listed either in approximate chronological order or in order of number of players worldwide.

I also envision that there will be a number of very short stub-like articles such as "Laser Skirmish" that explain what that term refers to specifically within the pursuit sports genre, and then points the reader into the appropriate place in the above tree. The beauty of this approach is that you end up with nice readable sentences in the main article such as "Lasertag as a whole can be broadly divided into the commercial indoor (or 'arena'), commercial outdoor, and homestyle varieties, each of which has many variants within it." and each of these ("commercial indoor," "commercial outdoor," and "homestyle") then point to a more specific article. The main article itself does not get too bogged down with details, but provides a good general overview of the subject and allows the reader to explore the particular elements in which he or she is interested.

Of course, that's just one man's vision. The beauty of Wikipedia is that if something doesn't look right, we can all get in there and change it for the better!

One thing that we all need to be careful of, though, is to not let our particular focus within the sport dictate a specific (therefore unbalanced) focus within the article. Remember that the lack of coverage of the wide world of outdoor tag was originally quite galling to those of us who don't play arena tag, so we don't want to turn around and turn the articles into something that equally alienates the large group of arena players out there. It is a very hard line to walk (and I am sure I have crossed it in a few places) to make this a reference work rather than a fan site.

Nice

[edit]

Nice idea, however I have only played very little Indoor Zone 3 and no paintball, my only experience so far has been a lot of commercial outdoor, I might be able to create a category of Pursuit Sports and include Paintball and its variants as such. I'll continue to work on some more missions and stuff for the Laser Skirmish article. If need be feel free to transfer these into a larger Laser tag Site Sabre07 22:50, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Also I'm not sure of the category pursuit sports, Maybe combat or skirmish sprots sports? you're probably right its just ive never heard the term pursuit sports used before Sabre07 22:54, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
