[edit]- Postcolonial/Colonial Linguistics (choice #1)
- theory that focuses on how language is connected to colonialism (looking at both historical and contemporary practices)
- Wiki has pages on Post-colonialism, linguistic imperialism, linguistic purism, etc. I didn't see any conversation explicitly discussing how language continues to maintain colonial relationships though, which is what Post-colonial/Colonial Linguistics studies as a theory.
- Could be really interesting to look at history of place-names in indigenous languages v. colonizers language
- Bach, E. (2003) Postcolonial(?) Linguistic Fieldwork.
- Watts, J.L. (2011) Colonial Languages and Postcolonial Linguistic Hybridity.
- Bolton & Hutton (2011) Orientalism, Linguistics, & Postcolonial Studies.
- Kubota, R. (2016) The Multi/Plural Turn, Postcolonial Theory, & Neoliberal Multiculturalism.
- Anchimbe, E.A. (2011) Postcolonial Pragmatics: An Introduction.
- Makoni, S.B. (2011) Sociolinguistics, Colonial & Postcolonial.
- This topic doesn't have its own article, but is obviously notable enough to have its own, so perhaps I'm misunderstanding the topic and it already has its own article under another name?
- It could be really interesting to look at this theory specifically in relation to Alaska, although finding sources might be a tad difficult.
