Introduction & History of Establishment

Many health inequalities are caused by social inequalities, which in itself raises the need to create equality and balance between different social groups. At the same time, the discovery of social determinants of health can provide a basis for evidence to develop social and health policies to improve the situation of the most disadvantaged. That is why the Commission on "Social Determining of Health" has been established in the World Health Organization (WHO). One of the member and partner countries in this field is the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education, as the main trustee of providing and maintaining the health of the people of the country, with the aim of achieving the highest possible level of health for individuals has paid special attention to social issues affecting health and justice in health.

Since Ardabil province, despite having potential talents in most fields, is one of the least developed provinces in the country and the main indicators of comprehensive development and indicators of social and health development in many areas are far from the desired situation, the lack of a center Research to develop and build knowledge in the field of social factors affecting health has always been felt as an urgent need. In this regard, the Research Center for Social Determining of Health in Ardabil was established on October 21, 2013 with the aim of focusing on social factors affecting health in the administrative complex of Ardabil University of Medical Sciences. Since the establishment and consolidation of such a center, which undoubtedly has the largest range of research among other research centers, requires comprehensive attention.

According to the vote issued in the 225th session of the Council for the Development of Medical Universities on 11/08/2012, a "principled agreement" was reached with the establishment of this research center at Ardabil University of Medical Sciences.
