"Rupara" is a small village situated in the north east of Namibia in the Kavango region 30km from Rundu. It was established in 1965.Before independence, it used to be called "Runtu". Runtu is a name in Rukwangali meaning a lot of people.Due to war in the past, the vambos(Specifically the Vakwanyamas) with their herds of cattle and kwangalis, moved from Angola to Namibia, Rundu near Rupara.Because the Kavangos always lived by fishing, they decided to settle near the river. The Vambos always wanted to have cattle, farms and hunt, they moved far away from the river to Nkurenkuru and finally occupied Okongo. One Thing that makes Rundu or Kavango popular is the river. They have an annual river that flows throughout.
