PSITTACOSIS (Parrot fever)
An infectious atypical pneunomia caused by Chiamydia psittaci and transmitted by certain birds. The species of Chamydia that causes psittacois is foud principally in psittacine birds (parrots, parakeets, love birds), less often in poultry, pigeons and canaries. Human infection usually occurs by inhaling dust from feathers or excreta of infected birds. There is no effective immunization against parrot fever but antibiotics, such as aiweomycin, are effective treatment. [1]
