[edit]I was inspired to become a Wikipedia editor because I became frustrated at the biased nature of many of the articles that I was reading. It is important to neutrally display multiple viewpoints of stakeholders when discussing contentious issues, namely:
- Political
- Ethnic/nationalist
- Religious
This is an encyclopedia, not a place to post manifestos and have them masquerade as an article.
The general public uses Wikipedia to quickly ascertain a basic understanding of millions of topics. While it is not exhaustive by its nature, it is supposed to at least steer readers in the right direction, toward a deeper understanding. This can only occur when articles present issues neutrally and when they are of an academic nature. Furthermore, multiple viewpoints should be touched on so that a reader can begin their own analysis by becoming acquainted with the differing perspectives on an issue.
