About Me

[edit]

I am an undergraduate student who joined Wikipedia as a component of my Global Youth Studies course at Drake University this fall 2014 semester.

Feedback Summary

[edit]

I really appreciate the advice from my peer reviewer Locke Perkins and have organized their feedback on my sandbox for the Positive youth development page into three main categories:

Mechanical Issues

[edit]

I need to revise my heading titles to ensure only the first word is ever capitalized. I also should distinguish the region I am referring to more clearly and change the "Description" heading title not to sound like it's the same as the intro. I also want to figure out whether all words in the title of the overall page should be capitalized.

Organization

[edit]

I should rethink where to place the Chinese example and and maybe try using headings instead of bullets in the implementation by region section.

Content

[edit]

I could try to expand more on the lead section and more regional examples were certainly be useful for the implementation section in the future. I also should try to simplify the image caption a bit more. I need to make the difference between the 'Background' and 'Origins' sections clearer.

Edit Proposal

[edit]

I would like to edit the page on Positive youth development. This Wikipedia article has a strong start but certainly could benefit from some additions. The topic is broadly placed in the field of youth development studies, but its information comes entirely from American sources, so I would like to broaden the scope of the page to reflect a larger area, reaching into the global south in particular.

In order to achieve this goal, I would like to introduce sections on how positive youth development is being implemented in examples from Latin America, Africa, and Asia. I would further like to distinguish between the varying ways Positive youth development (PYD) is implemented, including sports, after-school activities, and volunteer service. Additionally, I would like to include some information pertaining to uses in the United States based on social divisions such as gender and ethnicity.

My final proposals to change in the article pertain to formatting issues for Wikipedia articles. For example, I would like to add an image to the page. Additionally, four of the five external links provided towards the end of the piece do not actually work, so I plan to remove them and potentially replace them with links to other pages. Whether or not I introduce more external links in the section at the end of the page, I certainly plan to include more links to other articles to help integrate the piece into the Wikipedia encyclopedia.
