Raoul Rugamba is a Rwandan entrepreneur based and working from Rwanda, he was born in Bujumbura, Burundi, then moved to Rwanda in 1995, where he lives until today. "
Raoul, is a french name from German origins, meaning wolf counselor, and Rugamba his first name is a Rwandan name taking origin from "Urugamba" meaning battlefield, and "Rugamba" means a fighter.
Raoul Rugamba is known for his involvement in the creative industry space in Africa, and have been involved in the use of technology in schools, helping schools to teach and learn using technology.
Early life
[edit]Raoul Rugamba after moving to Rwanda, he was still young, and the country had just known the genocide, the genocide against Tutsi, he started primary school two years later, went to "Ecole la Colombière" and later on went to "Ecole primaire le Petit Prince"
After finishing his primary school, he had a passion of computers and electricity, and he went to attend the "Group Scolaire des Anciens de Don Bosco" where he finished a diploma in Electronic and Telecommunication.
That passion took him to university in 2008 where he did computer science, and has now a bachelor degree in computer science.
Raoul Rugamba is a passion of technology and education and that is what drives him in the creative industry and education sectors until today.
Career
[edit]Raoul Rugamba started his career in 2008 as a sound and lighting engineer for a production company in Rwanda called Positive Production.
In 2011, Raoul was embarked on a tour in Canada on a play called the “Monument” where he was a sound designer and actor in the play as a soldier.
Between 2008 and 2012, Raoul Rugamba had worked on more than 300 projects, where he installed event lighting and sound systems to events, concerts, meetings, parties, weddings, and conferences.
Between 2009 and 2014, Raoul Rugamba was working as an information technologist at the School of Public Health, a part of the National University of Rwanda back then, and he acquired extensive expertise on teaching and learning using technology in higher education where he was trained by the University of Tulane.
Later on in 2015, Raoul Rugamba started his journey as an entrepreneur where he founded Hobe Agency, a creative and communication agency, and he has since supported individuals and organization to organize, plan and run events in Rwanda, they supported companies to have the right technologies and tools that will help the organization work more efficiently, Hobe Agency has also supported schools and Universities in teaching and learning using technology, where he advised, supplied the required platforms and equipment to those institutions.
In 2018, Raoul Rugamba and his team at Hobe Agency started working on a new project called Africa in Colors, a project aiming at building a creative industry ecosystem in Africa, through this project, creative entrepreneurs will be able to build a common market, do business beyond their own countries, and they will be equipped by the right knowledge and skills in order to do business in the creative industry space on the continent. This project will improve lives of many creative entrepreneurs, will create jobs on the continent and will contribute to the economic growth of African countries.
Today, in 2020, Raoul Rugamba has worked on more than a thousand projects, events, educational, brand consultancies, and project management from around the world.
Personal life
[edit]Raoul Rugamba is passionate about education, technology and creativity.
Raoul has special interest and passion about the creative industry, more entertainment and loves spending time learning new skills and knowledge on how to develop this industry on the African continent.
Among his favorite hobbies are spending time with his friends, travelling and sharing experiences with his fellow entrepreneurs.
Part of his current challenges, is reading and writing more and speaking to various conferences about education and digital in the creative industry space.
