The Loon Cafe is a restaurant based in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

History

[edit]

Twin Cities restaurateur Michael Andrews opened the Loon Cafe in 1982. Known for its chili[1] and a vodka-and-soda based drink called Grape Ape,[2] it became popular with professional athletes such as Kirby Puckett and Kevin Love.[3]

The restaurant began serving its black bean chili and pecos river red chili at nearby Target Field when the stadium opened in 2010.[4][5] It started serving its beef chili there in 2016.[4]
