Appearance
Wikipedians often want to help in ways beyond writing articles, but don't know how to find an area which fits their skills and interests. This list may help. The main subject headings are poorly defined, so skim the whole list.
Content
[edit]- Did you know
- DYK is an easy place for people to jump in and have a highly-visible impact. You can start by helping to review submissions for adherence to the acceptance criteria. People with more experience can get involved preparing hook sets for the front page and managing the production queues.
- Good articles
- The Good Article project is responsible for reviewing submissions for compliance with our writing standards. You'll need good English writing skills and attention to detail.
- Featured articles
- In some ways, a more advanced version of Good Articles, with higher standards and a tougher review process. Included here for completeness, but probably not a good place for new editors to begin.
- Guild of Copy Editors
- Do you understand when to use which and when to use that? Are Strunk and White your heros? Do you enjoy working with authors who have good content to contribute but struggle with ESL? This is the place to put your blue pencil to work.
Technical
[edit]- Edit filters
- One of our front-line defenses against spam, vandalism, and other kinds of abuse. If you live and breathe regular expressions, this may be the place for you. Requires both technical skill and enough practical experience to have earned a high degree of trust.
- Bot Approvals Group
- Bots are automated processes that handle all sorts of repetitive tasks. The BAG is responsible for enforcing both policies and engineering standards, so this requires both technical skill and earned trust.
- Village pump (technical)
- People ask all sorts of technical questions here. The mobile app, wiki markup, SVG, PNG, Wikimedia logs, SQL, browsers, data feeds, bots, Ogg Theora, Lua, Unicode, Wikidata, searching, and more. Answering questions in your area of expertise can be a great way to contribute.
