Prof. Dr. Rona Aybay(born in Istanbul,Turkey in 1935) is a Turkish professor and human rights activist.
He was a Judge of the Human Rights Chamber for Bosnia and Herzegovina appointed by the Council of Europe, from the beginning to the end of the institution (1995-2003) [1] Prof. Aybay was a member of the “Group of Wise Persons”, elected by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe to consider the long-term effectiveness of the European Court of Human Rights[2].
He is currently the President of the Human Rights Center of the Turkish Union of Bar Associations (www.barobirlik.org.tr) and the President of AYBAY Foundation of Legal Studies.
He received his License and Dr.Jur degrees from the Faculty of Law, Istanbul University and Master of Comparative Law degree from Columbia University, New York, USA. He served as the Dean of the Faculty of Administrative Sciences, at Middle East Technical University ; Associate Dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences, Ankara University; Vice-President of the Istanbul Bar Association; Member of the European Commission Against Racism and Intolerance; and a Visiting Fulbright Professor at Iowa University Law School in USA.
Presently, he teaches at Near East University (Northern Cyprus).
