Origin Of The Name
[edit]The name Romper Levis is a Greek version of the name Robert Lewis. The Greek alphabet has no letter corresponding to "b" or "w". These two letters are rendered differently in Greek. "B" is represented by the letter combination "MP". Therefore Robert becomes Romper(t). (Note that the second letter of the Greek alphabet (beta) is pronounced "V" as in Cyrillic.) While the letter "W" is represented by "U" making the combination (or diphthong) "EU" pronounced "EV". Therefore Lewis becomes Levis. This name was printed on my tax form by the Greek Finance Ministry and is therefore the official spelling of my name in Greek.
