The pride of Embry-Riddle's Prescott campus, the Golden Eagles Flight Team, competes on both the regional and national level in National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA) competitions against dozens of other aviation colleges and universities. The Golden Eagles are proud to have won the National Championship eight times, and also to have placed first in the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Flying Association (PCIFA) Regionals for the last 26 consecutive years.

NIFA competitions consist of a variety of both flying and ground-based events. Flying events include Power-On and Power-Off spot landings, as well as Navigation and IFR Precision Flight. Ground events include the Simulated Comprehensive Aircraft Navigation, Aircraft Identification, Flight Computer Accuracy, a simulated instrument event, and a preflight event.

Members of the Golden Eagles are chosen through a highly selective, comprehensive, seven-week tryout process that is concluded by an interview. Students from all degree programs are encouraged to try out and previous flight experience is not required. Tryouts take place once a year in the beginning of the fall semester.

The Golden Eagles Competition Flight Team - a winner both in the air and on the ground. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University - Prescott Campus, Golden Eagles Flight Team is a diverse collection of students motivated by the desire to fly and dedicated to the best practices. The goal is simple: excellence in the aviation industry by excelling in competition.

The 30-year history of the team says it all: undefeated at the regional level for 26 consecutive years with 8 National Championships. What's more, many of the Golden Eagles Flight Team Alumni are now working for prestigious companies and carrying on the commitment to excellence learned while active members.

Team History

Founded in 1979 as the first student organization on campus, the Golden Eagles Flight Team holds true to the characteristics that forge champions: legacy, pride, safety, and responsibility. The current flight team leadership and membership is the result of a steady line of exceptional coaches and participants passing on the values we hold dear. Currently, there are 29 active members studying Aeronautical Science, Engineering and related majors.

In the last 24 years, the Golden Eagles are undefeated at the regional level and 8 time National Champions (1993, 1997, 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2012). The competitive performance of the Golden Eagles is a testament to Embry-Riddle's excellence in the aviation industry. It's no surprise that a collection of Golden Eagles Flight Team Alumni are now employed by prestigious aviation and aerospace companies, carrying on the commitment to excellence they learned as active members.

Safety Program

In aerospace and aviation, safety is the name of the game. From preflight checks to approach protocol, nothing is left to chance. The Golden Eagles Flight Team is dedicated to the daily activities that make each practice run and competition event safe for our members.
