Tape, I-C-E, and Sound Advice

This book is compilation of stories from NATA Hall of Fame athletic trainer, Rod Walters. Walters worked at various institutions from Lenoir-Rhyne College (1980 - 1985) to Appalachian (1985 - 1990) and the University of South Carolina (1990 - 2007). He served all schools as their head athletic trainer coordinating the health care of student-athletes. In Tape, I-C-E, and Sound Advice, Walters tells of his experiences and applies the stories to life's lessons. The basic tenant of the book deals with priorities, and application of the experiences to both the work environment, but more importantly to one's personal well-being. These principles include good business and family practices.

Walters worked with three different athletic directors and worked directly with four head football coaches at South Carolina. His last two were the most famous and memorable - Lou Holtz and Steve Spurrier. The forward of the book was written by Lou Holtz, a most popular speaker of his own accord.

Rod Walters grew up in Fayetteville, NC, and began his work at Terry Sanford High School where he served as a student athletic trainer. Following high school, he attended Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, and was the first graduate of Appalachian's athletic training curriculum to obtain national certification from the Board of Certification. He received two degrees from Appalachian (Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education - 1979 and Masters of Arts in Physical Education - 1980). He later received his doctoral degree from Middle Tennessee State University (1988). Walters was elected by his peers from District III of the NATA (North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia) as their representative to the NATA's board of directors. He served there from 1997 to 2003. Walters was given the NATA's highest honor in 2005 wit his induction into their Hall of Fame.

Today, Walters is a highly sought after consultant and public speaker through Walters Inc. - Consultant in Sports Medicine.
