The School of Life Sciences, Sambalpur University was established in the year 1971 for conducting master's degree (M.Sc) courses and research (Ph.D) in Life Sciences and Microbiology. Earlier Biotechnology and Environmental Sciences were under this department later they were given independent status.

Research Areas Facilities The School gives teaching in branches of Life Sciences like Biochemistry, Physiology, Ecology, Microbiology and Molecular Biology. Besides the regular course of M. Sc., M. Phil and Ph. D. programme in Life Sciences, the School runs a self financing P. G. programme leading to M. Sc. Biotechnology degree.
