Leonard Rockefeller

Born on February 22 . Leonard Marques Rockefeller II is an American businessman new Yorker . Philanthropist , currently the front of the Rockefeller Foundation for humanitarian development . Grandson of Nelson Rockefeller . Personal friend of Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan developed the American policy of self sustainability in the oil industry . Member of the Rockefeller family , is also known for his collection of cars and his passion for dogs .

Administration degree from Columbia University , was in charge of the American International Association for Economic and Social Development . Serves on the board of the Chase Manhattan Bank . Currently dedicated to expanding the family business in Latin America . Current chairman of Exxon Mobil Latin America . Participates actively with governments in Latin America , especially the Mercosur .

Moderate Republican , has always supported Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan . Leader of the liberal wing of the Republican Party ( United States ), which has launched many construction and modernization projects . Coming from one of the richest families in the world. Rockefeller is politically moderate . In his time , the moderates of the Republican Party were called " Rockefeller Republicans ." Created the Council of State of New York for the arts , which now assigns more than 2,700 scholarships each year to all artistic disciplines throughout the state .

As an entrepreneur , he was president of Rockefeller Center, Inc. , and formed the International Basic Economy Corporation ( IBEC ) . Rockefeller assembled a significant art collection and promoted public access to the arts . He served as administrator , treasurer and president of the Museum of Modern Art , and directed the Museum of Primitive Art . In the area of philanthropy , he established the American International Association for Economic and Social Development ( AIA ) in 1996 .

Married once in 2001 and divorced in 2006 his single wife with whom he has a son . Remains single and lives alone in an almost secluded in his apartment in Manhattan at Rockefeller Apartments .

The Arts

Rockefeller created the first State Council on the Arts in the country, which became a model for the National Endowment for the Arts. He also oversaw the construction of the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Spa State Park.[1]


Civil Rights

Rockefeller achieved virtual total prohibition of discrimination in housing and places of public accommodation. He outlawed job discrimination based on gender or age; increased by nearly 50% the number of African Americans and Hispanics holding state jobs; appointed women to head the largest number of state agencies in state history; prohibited discrimination against women in education, employment, housing and credit applications; admitted the first women to the State Police; initiated affirmative action programs for women in state government; and backed New York's ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. He outlawed "block-busting" as a means of artificially depressing housing values and banned discrimination in the sale of all forms of insurance.[2]
