Coloration (Acoustics)
Sound transmitted in an acoustical medium is said to exhibit coloration if certain frequencies or tones in its spectrum are emphasized as a result of this intermediate system. These emphases reflect the characteristics of of the acoustical medium (room, amplifier, etc.) rather than the sound source itself. In its simplest form, coloration is caused by periodic reflections between parallel hard walls in a room, which produce comb filtering response. Although coloration is often considered subjective, various models have been developed to compute coloration from a given system response by extracting periodic components from it.
