The Harwich Junior Theatre is a theatre company located in Harwich, Massachusetts. Founded in 1951 by Betty Bobp, a Wheelock College drama teacher, the Harwich Junior Theatre stages performances year-round for local audiences. Their focus is on family entertainment, particularly staging children's plays. While HJT previously staged shows only during the summer tourist season, it now stages shows all year round
In addition to mounting over a dozen productions each year, the Harwich Junior Theatre provides classes in acting, stagecraft, and technical theatre arts for children. The students are involved in all phases of productions, from stage management and acting to prop construction and stage lighting.
Many students who have been involved with HJT, both onstage and backstage, have gone on to careers in film and theatre. Some notable former students of the Harwich Junior Theatre include Jay Harrington, Seth Doane, and several theatre department faculty members at Wheelock College
Harwich Junior Theatre is located at 105 Division Street, West Harwich, Massachusetts, in a former Masonic Hall building.
