Questions for the candidate
[edit]Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia as an administrator. It is recommended that you answer these optional questions to provide guidance for participants:
- 1. What administrative work do you intend to take part in?
- A:I honestly am not quite sure what I will be good at. However, I think I can help out at WP:Administrative backlog, and also monitor recent changes. I am already a user of Huggle, so I can use the extra powers to block repetitive vandals. My comments would be useful at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents too, and I can chip in in WP : CSD as well. Overall, My aim is to help make Wikipedia a better place and I will do the best I can.
- 2. What are your best contributions to Wikipedia, and why?
- A:I can't single out any one edit as my best contribution. I'm proud of the number of people I have helped at the Reference Desks. Sometimes, not getting into trouble in itself is a good thing... I'm proud of my clean record - no blocks, no warnings, no controversies.
- 3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
- A:I haven't been in conflict with another user before, nor am I overly stressed up with other users. Trolls and Vandals tend to amuse me rather than annoy me (not that I encourage them - I adopt WP : RBI ). I believe in staying cool during any discussion, and always assume good faith. I don't believe in using harsh words, or giving animated replies. Rather, I calmly present my points, and if the situation gets out of hands, will report the incident.
- 1. How comfortable are you with working with media files and image policy on Wikipedia? (i.e. WP:NFC, WP:NFCC, WP:IUP, ect.)
- A:No experience so far, but I'm gonna read up those pages.
- 2. How familiar are you with WP:CSD in general?
- A:Yes, I am familiar with the criteria. I haven't participated in many, however, I have seen a few discussions, and have a fair idea of them.
- 3. How familiar are you with Wikipedia's blocking policy in general?
- A:I am familiar with the blocking policy, them being part of my adoption lessons.
- 4. Do you do much anti-vandalism work?
- A:I do some anti-vandalism work, but not much. I use Huggle when I do.
- 5. (Be honest) Have you ever engaged in any sort of incivility or harassment of other users?
- A:No.
- 6. Have you written/contributed majorly to any articles? If so, which article(s)?
- A:No, all I've done is start two stubs, and contribute to another article, that's all. I know my Mainspace work is pathetic, and I'm going to improve it.
- 7. What do you know about Wikipedia's page protection policies?
- A:I have a fair idea about page protection. I am going to read up Wikipedia:Protection policy to be sure.
- 8. Have you ever participated in any WP:XFD debates? If so, how frequently?
- A:No, I haven't participated in any XFDs yet.
- 9. What is your area of expertise on Wikipedia? (e.g. Help Desk, Image policy, article CSDs, article writing, ect.) What do you do to contribute there?
- A:I am familiar with the Help Desk, but I don't think I have been of too much help there yet. As I mentioned above, I know a fair bit of the policies, but have done little actual work in those areas.
I'm so sorry for leaving you in the dust for the past week; feel free to trout me >_<. Alright, I've looked over your answers, and I think I have a general idea of what we need to work on. See the next lesson. -FASTILY (TALK) 23:03, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
