This is a holding area to compile a master list of all members of the Virginia General Assembly for the years 2002–2011, representing one redistricting period. It will (I hope) provide a set of redlinks for new article creation. The baseline membership is taken from the mainspace articles for the two houses, representing current membership as of 2009-01-29. (NOTE: this page has and will continue to have original research. That's why it's staying in a user page.)

General Assembly districts underwent some minor boundary corrections during the period, but by and large are intact since the redistricting enacted at the 2001 regular session.

Special notes

[edit]
  • 39th Senate District - this district was moved from southwest to northern Virginia in the redistricting. The incumbent, 28 year veteran Madison Marye, knowing he could not run for reelection, opted to resign. This triggered a crisis over which jurisdiction the special election would be held in. Precedent indicated his replacement should be elected from the old district boundaries, but the law was changed to specify that the election would take place in the new district. Jay O'Brien (Virginia politician), a GOP House member who lived in the new district and was planning to run there in 2003, won the special election and took office a year early.
