Sky City (novel series) Sky City is a biopunk series of novels written by author R. D. Hale. The first book in the series is entitled The Rise of an Orphan and was released in three parts. A complete edition is also available. Sky City: The Rise of an Orphan won Wattpad's Watty People's Choice Award in 2014. The sequel to is entitled The Wrath of Arturo and part one is currently available with part two currently a work in progress.

Each story released so far is narrated in first person by the protagonist, Arturo Basilides - a 16 year old boy from the slums of Medio city in the fictional world of Eryx. The story is set within a Dystopian society ruled by the San Terian party. San Teria have built a theocracy around a warped version of the Samarian religion. They have imposed a strict caste system with The Elites at the top, followed by the Level One Citizens (upper class), Level Two Citizens (middle class), and Level Three Citizens (lower class). Social mobility is extremely low, and the Level Three Citizens have such a low standard of living that many opt out of the system and live as outlaws. These people are known as bottom-levellers and they have few legal rights within this society. They live in slums and survive by scavenging, stealing, and doing whatever it takes to survive. Arturo is one such bottom-leveller.

Arturo is introduced to a man called Jardine who initially pays Arturo and his friend Smig to complete dangerous tasks. Once Arturo has proven his worth, he is asked to join the Rebellion - an organisation composed of bottom-levellers, ex-convicts, disillusioned citizens, and foreign soldiers who share the goal of overthrowing San Teria.
