[edit]Beethoven Piano Sonatas - gate
[edit]Beethoven is well-known in the world of music. He has written many pieces of music that reflect varying degrees of difficulty. An example of his works includes his 32 piano sonatas. He wrote them between the years of 1792 and 1822. He finished his last sonata five years before his death.
He began writing his sonatas around the time when "...the Classic period was changing to the Romantic period."[1] His sonatas demonstrate change from the Vienna period (1792-1802) to the middle period (1802-1814) and finally to the last period (after 1815).Cite error: The opening <ref>

Around 1802, Beethoven entered his middle period. He sought after the Romantic style of music; he wrote in a more dramatic style than he did when he wrote in his early period of music. His middle period demonstrates the early beginnings of the Romantic period.
The arrival of Beethoven's last period marked the time when he could no longer hear as well. Consequently, he was isolated and as a result, his music was communicating more with music than with his audience.Cite error: The opening <ref>

Beethoven Piano Sonatas - All About Beethoven
[edit]Many pianists have taken up the difficult task of studying Beethoven's piano sonatas.
Beethoven is a critical player in changing and transforming sonata form. While he "...maintains the characteristics..."[2] of Haydn and Mozart, he also introduces his own ideas and styles which make his music all the more impressive and innovative. His music expresses his emotions of both happiness and grief.
Beethoven's style of music is very strong and bold. His works are very recognizable because of the many memorable themes he writes.
The tone of his music is the most important and memorable part of his music. His tone helps listeners and pianists to understand his music as well as his emotions at the time of writing the music. For example, the joyous parts reflect his delight and cheer while the mournful parts reflect his grief and sadness at losing his hearing.
His music is not predictable; it does not have a specific path that it takes. His thirty two sonatas comprise of twelve which have 4 movements, thirteen which have 3 movements and seven which have 2 movements. However, Beethoven kept a connection between the movements of each of his sonatas.

[edit]Beethoven is a well known composer who wrote pieces with much power and expression. His sonatas became models for later composers and were held with a certain excellence.
The pianoforte was the musical instrument of Beethoven's time that was preferred by many people over the harpsichord. Notes could be held out for longer than on a harpsichord. It was popular in recital halls, homes and many other locations.
Many sonatas, including Beethoven's early sonatas, were elegant in style. However, as Beethoven wrote more and more pieces, he became more dramatic in his pieces. They became more demanding and longer. Some of his later sonatas are very difficult, including his 29th Piano Sonata, the "Hammerklavier." His later sonatas became known as formidable and very difficult and daunting pieces.
There are many reasons why Beethoven may have resorted to more dramatic and difficult music. It is guessed that he may have done this as a result of his hearing loss. By the time he was writing his later sonatas, he was far along the process of losing his hearing. The piano was changing at the time, though. It was becoming an instrument that could take on harder works, such as the later sonatas of Beethoven.
