I am generally interested in all types of life and languages.
I am a PhD student in Computer Science at Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington in Pōneke, Aotearoa New Zealand. My primary focus is understanding ecology and bird populations using computational modeling. My research interests beyond that involve open science, open source, community science platforms, and taxonomy.
As well, I am the Interim Executive Director for the GNOME Foundation, a nonprofit building a diverse and sustainable free software personal computing ecosystem. I am the organizer for SustainOSS, and have recorded hundreds of podcasts on open source sustainability there. I am also one of the two organizers of CURIOSS, the community for university and research institution open source program offices. I have been interested and involved in open source communities for decades.
In my spare time, I am a professional conlanger, creating languages for TV studios and novelists, an avid reader and hiker, and interested in civic, local action towards a more sustainable future.
You can read more about my projects at his website, https://burntfen.com, and follow me on http://richard.social. Always interested in learning more about how to use Wikipedia well.
