User:Rfambot
This user account is a bot operated by Jennifer_Rfm (talk). It is used to make repetitive automated or semi-automated edits that would be extremely tedious to do manually, in accordance with the bot policy. The bot is currently inactive but retains the approval of the community. Administrators: if this bot is malfunctioning or causing harm, please block it. |
Purpose
[edit]This bot is for use by Rfam to make edits to a list of ~600-700 pages. These pages are all related to non coding RNA and many of these pages were created by us in order to be relevant to our ncRNA families. We are part of the Wikipedia:WikiProject RNA a daughter project of Molecular and Cellular Biology Project . Our aim is to raise the profile and content of the ncRNA pages within Wikipedia. An example of one of these pages U1_spliceosomal_RNA
We intend to use this bot to update the values in the Rfam and Rfam_box template boxes to keep the information relevant and possibly add/update external links to other RNA databases. These external links will be standard format so we will probably generate new templates for them in advance. The subset of pages to be edited at any one time will change but always be restricted to the original list of 600-700 pages.
Language & function
[edit]The bot is written in perl and use the Mediawiki API. It downloads the current revision of a page from Wikipedia, parses it, replaces selective content (currently in rfam and rfam_box templates), and writes it back to Wikipedia.
Schedule
[edit]This bot will be automatically set to run on a curated list of pages (at most ~600-700). If necessary I can provide a list of all the pages we are interested in. At present I dont know how long it will take it run but it will only be run infrequently (ever few weeks -month?) when we have set of updates to make.
