Rev. Jeffrey Brown

Jeffrey L. Brown is an American urban violence expert, peace activist, and Baptist minister based in Boston, Massachusetts.

He is currently an associate pastor at the historic Twelfth Baptist Church[1] of Roxbury, MA; and was the former senior pastor of the Union Baptist Church[2] in Cambridge, MA for 22 years. Brown is the founder of the national organization Rebuilding Every Community Around Peace (RECAP)[3], and the former Executive Director of the faith-based Boston Ten Point Coalition[4], both working on issues of urban gun violence that impacts communities. He was one of the architects of what has been called the "Boston Miracle"[5], a collaborative effort of gun violence reduction that involves faith leaders, law enforcement and city services[6]. Brown has traveled nationally and internationally, consulting with city leaders seeking similar approaches and ideas to reduce violence[7]. In 2015 he gave a TED Talk [8] reflecting on his experiences, which has been viewed over one million times. The actor Chadwick Boseman[9] and Boseman's business partner Logan Coles[10] will produce a movie with Paramount Pictures based on Brown's life experiences[11]. Brown has received numerous awards and honors, appeared on both local and national media such as the New York Times[12] and NPR[13], and produced a podcast called The Courage To Listen[14]. He was named a Richman Distinguished Fellow in Public Life by Brandeis University[15].
