Frank Bozanich is an American ultramarathoner. He is known as a pioneer in the sport and today, is well known for his longevity. Frank is a five time overall national champion (three at 50 miles, 1 at 50k, and 1 at 100k) and has several age group national titles. Frank is the only ultramarathoner to have won a race overall in five different decades (70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s).
Early Life
[edit]Frank was born on May 20,1944 in Anacortes, Washington as the second child of Anthony and Beverly (nee Hustad) Bozanich. As a child and young man, he spent much of his free time helping his father on his salmon fishing boats. While in high school, Frank was a member of the wrestling and track teams, specializing in the 440 yard distance.
After graduating from Anacortes High School in 1962, Frank enrolled at nearby Skagit Valley Community College where again he joined the wrestling and track teams. Upon graduation from SVCC in 1964, Frank continued his education at Eastern Washington University
Marine Career
[edit]On August 1967 (two days after his daughter was born), Frank decided to join the Marines as an officer. He had received a draft notice from the Army for Vietnam, but had wanted to be a Marine since he was a child. Within weeks of joining, Frank went to Quantico, Virginia for basic training. He stayed at Quantico for The Basic School before going off to Fort Sill, Oklahoma for forward artillery school.

[edit]After leaving Alaska, Frank and his family settled in Reno, NV. Today he is a coach for Endurance Reno, a team comprised of athletes looking to achieve their goals in both running and triathlon. Frank still travels the country to run ultras and speak when asked. He is also a representative for Feetures running socks and for Nature's Bakery fig bars.
