Honeyboom is a late life second honeymoon or vacation taken by couples with older children to help them remember why they fell in love.
History
[edit]Honeyboomers leave the kids at home while they take a break to work on their relationship and to simply have fun again with their partner. Coined by Carnival Cruise Line in 2017 to describe the growing trend of 45+ year old couples travelling child-free. The term has been picked up by media outlets referencing psychologist and relationship expert John Aiken to describe parents holidaying to reignite the love through fun, adventure and shared experiences[1]. They are usually parents to teenage children and possess a carefree, young at heart attitude towards life. They are open to trying new things and enjoying new experiences together.[2].
Etymology
[edit]The portmanteau of "honeymoon" and "baby boomer" has only been around since 2017 when Carnival Cruise Line starting using the term as a marketing term to describe a growing trend for couples holidaying on their cruise ships [3].
