The 2023–24 EFL Cup will be the 64th season of the EFL Cup (known as the Carabao Cup for sponsorship reasons). The competition is open to all clubs participating in the Premier League and the English Football League.
The winner of the competition will qualify for the play-off round of the 2024–25 UEFA Europa Conference League.[2]
Manchester United are the defending champions, having beaten Newcastle United to secure a 6th title in the previous season's final.[3]
The final will be played at Wembley Stadium on 25 February 2024.[4]
Access
[edit]All 92 clubs in the Premier League and English Football League entered the season's EFL Cup. Access was distributed across the top 4 leagues of the English football league system.[5]
In the first round, all Championship, League One and League Two clubs entered.
The following round, the Premier League clubs finishing 9-20 in the 2022–23 Premier League season will enter.

[edit]A total of 72 clubs will play in the first round: 24 from League Two (tier 4), 24 from League One (tier 3), and 24 from the Championship (tier 2). The draw for this round was split on a geographical basis into "northern" and "southern" sections. Teams were drawn against a team from the same section.
