Winter Bloom

[edit]

The phrase "winter bloom" refers to the North American species of witch hazel. Winter bloom gains its name from one distinctive property—it blooms in the wintertime, when most flowers lie dormant.

Winter bloom is common in a variety of colors, from pale yellow through orange and red to near-purple. The deepest red color comes from Hamamelis xintermedia "Diane", a hybrid of Japanese Hamamelis japonica and Chinese Hamamelis mollis. It blooms directly in midwinter.[1]
