B&G Oysters is a Boston, Massachusetts restaurant known for its list of 12+ oysters, classic clam-shack favorites, and Mediterranean-inspired entrees, and a concept created by its chef/owner Barbara Lynch.[1] The restaurant's namesake stands for "Barbara and Garrett" as restaurateur Garrett Harker was one of the original partners. It is a modern update on the classic New England oyster bar. The restaurant is located in Boston's historic South End, a neighborhood that houses some of Boston's most well-known upscale restaurants. Both Barbara Lynch and B&G Oysters have received several accolades since the restaurant's opening in 2003, most recently, including "Best Seafood " by #REDIRECT Boston Magazine in 2008. Lynch's other local restaurants, such as Beacon Hill's No. 9 Park and the South End's The Butcher Shop have been acclaimed in #REDIRECT The Improper Bostonian and The Boston Herald for their excellence in both food and wine. [2] B&G Oysters is housed in a subterranean dining room, providing seating for up to 48 people, while its stone-walled grotto outside, open May-September, seats 32. Its walls are covered in opalescent blue and grey mosaic tiles, as well as architecture that spells "B&G" in Morse code. The bar, serving local and international wine and beer, is made of white marble, surrounded by 18 glossy black barstools. http://www.bostonmagazine.com/restaurants/detail/b_g_oysters In addition to its ever-changing oyster selections, B&G's menu ranges from New England classics-such as clam chowder and a Maine lobster roll-to Mediterranean-inspired fare, such as steamed Wellfleet clams. Many of Lynch's ingredients include local seafood and produce, showcasing her culinary education cooking with local women in Italy. http://bostonchefs.com/restaurant/No9Park/chef/barbara-lynch/ Working under Lynch's expertise at B&G is Chef de Cuisine Stephen Oxaal and Sous Chef Stephanie Cmar A large part of B&G's appeal is its wine list, created by sommelier Cat Silirie, who has worked with Lynch for over 20 years and has received many accolades from publications like Food & Wine and Wine & Spirits magazines. Silirie created B&G's wine list to complement the lighter fare of its menu, while focusing on small, organic producers from Italy and France, who place a high priority on minerality and balanced acidity.
