DiscountElectronics.com was founded in 1997 by Richard M. Culleton in Austin, Texas. It was Incorporated as First E-Commerce, Inc in the State of Texas in 1999. In 2003 the company opened a store in San Antonio Texas that was later sold to a then employee, Ben Bracher and was renamed PC Outlet. The first store has relocated three times in the past ten years and now occupies 15,000 square feet on Anderson Lane that the company owns.

In the midst of one of the largest economic downturns of the last 50 years, DiscountElectronics.com opened two new stores in 2009. One of these stores was opened in a long since vacated Blockbuster Video in South Austin, the other in Round Rock Texas near Dell's headquarters.

At the beginning of 2011 the company employed 85 people all working in central Texas from four locations including the main distribution hub on Wall Street. DiscountElectronics.com has been on the Inc 5000 every year since 2007. The company has received numerous accolades including ABJ's Fast 50 Award and The Austin Chronicle's Readers Poll Award.
