Reception
[edit]Critical
[edit]"With the release of Free Yourself Up, which the group self-produced, Lake Street Dive has sharpened their focus. It's the band's most complex and mature album, but they still know how to have fun, even if life is a little more serious and they're a bit world weary."[2]
"Rachael Price's voice comes at you like a muscle car of music history, blues and bebop detailing on a classic soul 'n' rock chassis, and her band's latest set comes with songcraft grown tighter and more polished, shrewdly conjuring retro pleasures per usual." [3]
"The current state-of-mind empowering Lake Street Dive, perhaps the boldest pure pop enterprise to hit the airwaves in the last decade, is summed up in the lead-off tune to its invigorating new album, Free Yourself Up.” [4]
