Hi my name is Robert. I officially joined the Wikipedia community in May 2006 and have made more than 200 edits.
I am from Sydney Australia, but I have a rich and proud Italian heritage.
My goals for Wikipedia:
- Reduce bias and foster objective analysis. This includes reducing the use of sources to promulgate or justify biased points of view - especially in controversial topics.
- Reduce drive-by vandalism
- Increase Australian content
- Provide proper referencing to unsourced prose or opinions.
- Reduce racism, sexism and homophobia.
- Improve overall quality of articles, where possible.
Issues that Wikipedia webmasters need to address:
- Instigating compulsory user registration in order to participate in the editing process. Driveby vandalism is a persistent problem that plagues Wikipedia articles, especially those of pre-eminence and of particular public interest. Regular users spend far too much time reverting vandalism - time that could otherwise be spent on improving the quality of Wikipedian content. Perceptibly, much vandalism originates from non-registered users - just look at the history of popular articles.
- Some sort of system that allows articles to achieve a "complete" status. This is another source of vandalism as the inability to complete an article fosters drive-by vandals to add inappropriate rubbish to a perfectly written article. However, this could be greatly reduced with a registered-user-only edit system. Perhaps articles which achieve "featured" status would be limited to a certain number of edits per day and/or week so as to retain the consistency and excellence of the article.
