The Barishal University Physics Club (Bengali: বরিশাল বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় পদার্থবিজ্ঞান ক্লাব, Bariśāl biśbabidyālaẏ padārthabiggān klāb; simply BUPC) is an academic and extracurricular student organization established in 2024 at the University of Barishal, Bangladesh. The club's mission is to advance the study and appreciation of physics among students, educators, and enthusiasts. BUPC achieves this through a variety of engaging activities, fostering a supportive community for its members. The club is open to students of all backgrounds with an interest in physics, regardless of their major or experience level. Through a diverse array of activities, BUPC empowers its members to not only gain a deeper understanding of physics concepts but also to develop critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills – all valuable assets for future academic and professional pursuits.[2]
History
[edit]Recognizing the need for a dedicated organization to foster the study and appreciation of physics at the University of Barishal, the Barishal University Physics Club (BUPC) was established.
On May 26, 2024, a Convening Committee was formed to address this necessity. The committee comprised Convener Al Amin, Joint Convener Al Wasif, Member Secretary Abu Sadat, and members Amjad Hossain and Abdul Hafiz Tamim. This committee was instrumental in drafting the club's constitution.
On June 2, 2024, the Barishal University Physics Club marked several significant milestones. In alignment with the newly drafted constitution, the Nucleus Team was officially formed, becoming the core administrative body responsible for guiding the club's mission and activities. Following this, the convening committee was dissolved, transferring its responsibilities to the Nucleus Team, symbolizing a new era of structured governance.
On June 3, 2024, the club launched its official Facebook page and unveiled its official logo[4]. These additions provided the club with a professional online presence and a distinct visual identity, enhancing communication and engagement with members and the broader community. [5]
The formal inauguration of the club took place on June 4, 2024, officiated by the Chief Advisor, Dr. Md. Khorshed Alam, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Physics at the University of Barishal. The event was further honored by the presence of Dr. Ishtiaque M. Syed, Professor of Physics at the University of Dhaka, and members of the Nucleus Team.[6][7][8]
On June 9, 2024, the Advisor Committee members formally signed the club's affiliation documents.[9] Officially, this day is considered as the Formation day of Barishal University Physics Club (BUPC). The Advisor Committee includes:
Chief Advisor:
Dr. Md. Khorshed Alam, Chairman & Associate Professor, Department of Physics, University of Barishal
Advisors:
- - Dr. Rahima Nasrin, Associate Professor, Department of Physics, University of Barishal
- - Dr. Md. Lokman Hossen, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, University of Barishal
- - Dr. Muhammad Shakhawat Hossain, Associate Professor & Chairman, Department of Mathematics, University of Barishal
- - Dr. Md. Shafiul Alam, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics, University of Barishal
- - Dr. Bijan Krishna Saha, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics, University of Barishal
- - Dr. Halima Bagum, Associate Professor & Chairman, Department of Chemistry, University of Barishal
- - Dr. Dhiman Kumer Roy, Associate Professor & Chairman, Department of Geology and Mining, University of Barishal
- - Md. Asaduzzaman, Lecturer, Department of Physics, University of Barishal
On June 10, 2024, the first board meeting of the Barishal University Physics Club (BUPC) was held. During this inaugural meeting, the Nucleus team presented the proposed list of members for the Delta Committee, which is a crucial step in the club's organizational structure.
According to the club's constitution, the Delta Committee was officially formed on June 12, 2024, marking a significant milestone in the club's development.
Subsequently, BUPC opened registration for general members on June 15, 2024, inviting students from across the university to join and participate in the club's activities.
Leadership and Structure
[edit]The leadership structure of the Barishal University Physics Club (BUPC) is organized into three main components: the Executive Committee, the Advisory Committee, and the Founding Committee.
The Executive Committee is divided into two sections: the Nucleus Committee and Delta Committees. The Nucleus Committee consists of 13 members who are responsible for making all major decisions related to the club. Members of this committee include third and fourth-year undergraduates as well as master’s students from the Physics Department at the University of Barishal. Delta Committees are specialized teams that handle specific tasks within the club, such as graphic design, web development, content creation, video editing, study circles, promotion, social media, event management, human resources, financial management, and office management.
The Advisory Committee is led by a Chief Advisor, who is a faculty member from the University of Barishal. The Chief Advisor is appointed indefinitely but can be replaced by a consensus decision of the Nucleus Committee. Additionally, the Advisory Committee includes several other advisors who are teachers from the Various Departments. The Chief Advisor, with input from the Nucleus Committee, manages the appointment of these advisors.
The Founding Committee, known as the Convening Committee, was initially formed by at least three students interested in establishing the club. This committee was responsible for selecting the first Nucleus Committee and officially establishing the club. Once the first Nucleus Committee was in place, the Convening Committee was dissolved.
