Share In Asia, is a non-profit organization, organized under section 501(C)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service, operating in the Asian continent in countries like India, Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet and Bangladesh.
Founded in 1996, by Pastor Andrew and Savita Prakasam, in Seattle, Share In Asia reaches out to the deserving people, providing them food, shelter, education, job training, housing, drinking water and rescuing children and women from streets, garbage dumps, prostitution, low-caste persecutions and from inhumane conditions.
Constitution:
Share in Asia is governed by a group of board members. All accounts are audited for accuracy and submitted to the appropriate reporting agencies.
Areas of operation:
Share In Asia works for the Care for Children from families below poverty line, Old aged widowed women, orphaned and semi-orphaned children.
Role in Disaster Relief
During the 2001 Gujarat earthquake, the Share in Asia team with its five-fold strategy[1], facilitated the rehabilitation and restoration of the local people in the areas of Bhuj, Gandhidham and Ahemadabad.
In December 2006, when the Tsunami waves washed away the dreams and lives of the coastal people in southern India, Share in Asia facilitated immediate relief[2] and set up food and necessities distribution centers, for people to get back to normalcy. Tsunami Relief Homes were established at Sirkali and Tiruvarur in 2008, to take care of the Tsunami orphaned children.
Social Work:
Two more orphanages, one in Orissa, and the other in Udamalpet, have been established and 120 children are taken care of every month.
In addition to this Share In Asia, has built 48 community centers promoting peace and harmony of the people living in the villages of India. 15 Social workers are supported every month by their programs. Under the Scholarship program[3], more than 10 young men and women have received professional education in Engineering and Nursing Colleges. A Leper Rehabilitation center and a Public School at Mielkal are also supported.
Rescuing and rehabilitating prostitutes, is one other venture of Share In Asia. The president of Share in Asia was featured in the human trafficking documentary Slaves to Aloha.
Share In Asia, also focuses on women development and has carve a career for them. Training in tailoring and garment making has been facilitated for young women from economically backward communities to help them be self-sustaining.
Medical Help has been given to those who could not afford to pay for surgeries. Also a mid-wife clinic has been built in Udamalpet, to provide nutritional supplements, basic first AID and health care to pregnant women and infants.
Future Projects:
The Himalayan Foundation is a new venture of Share In Asia, to reach out to 5 countries from a single location at Sikkim. The theme will be music, meditation, mediation. This project will feature an orphanage, a medical clinic, a beautician training school, a college and a community center all in a single campus to rehabilitate the people in North India and the surrounding countries.
Sponsors visit the Share In Asia projects from time to time and have had a chance to see the help reach out to the beneficiaries themselves.
