Hi there! I'm Sim, a creative technologist, tech policy researcher and budding Wikipedian based in New Jersey. Data privacy, surveillance and decentralization have been at the core of my work thus far though lately I have begun exploring cyber-security, broadband and governance.
First Edits
[edit]I nervously made my first contribution in Summer of 2023, adding mention of the Plank Road Public Shoreline to the Newtown Creek page. I was compelled to do this after visiting the shoreline and enjoying the bizarre placement of it between a Department of Sanitation waste plant and the Western Beef headquarters parking lot; I wanted people to learn about the project and perhaps be compelled to come see it for themselves! That was my lone contribution for over a year until I joined a Wikimedia NYC event on 19 July 2024 at Civic Hall called Wikicurious: Editing Wikipedia for Beginners. It is at this event where I learned more about the principles of Wikipedia, editing standards and even made some edits of my own! Under mentorship of local chapter members I started a history and controversy section to the Citizenship Test page and linked some sources. Going forward I hope to make edits naturally as I encounter them, join edit-a-thons and perhaps add some photographs from my personal archive (mostly those taken around NYC) to Wikimedia Commons!
