Hi, I'm Rarkm. I've been a user and occasional editor of Wikipedia for a number of years. I often look up terms or references to people or things in books I am reading -- it's surprising how often this illuminates understanding. This is especially true in books more than 50 years old or so or which include Latin or Greek quotations (hardly anyone has a classical education any more).

I have an interest in 16th through 19th American history and military history, medieval illumination, biography and technology as well as speculative technology and fiction. I went to the 1964 New York Worlds Fair and was promised video phones by what was then called AT&T. I have my picture phone now, no thanks to AT&T, and it is far more amazing than anyone dreamed of in 1964. I can only conclude that the expert prognosticators of the future are as farsighted as naked mole-rats.
