Niche is an American industrial rock band from Nampa, Idaho, formed in 2008. The group was founded by vocalist Karlin Nichols and drummer Hawk Dobbins. The has released one EP and one music video.[1]
History
[edit]The Niche was formed in 2008 by Karlin Nichols and Hawk Dobbins. With a desire to work in mixed mediums the group set out to explore various forms of art, with endeavors ranging from viticulture to fashion, cinematography to music. They soon found themselves immersed in a world of intense discovery and awareness. Craving uninhibited exploration of all things artistic, the Niche found it necessary to exceed the boundaries of traditional creative practices. This lead them to new perspectives along with a few new tools, all of which they utilized to create their first E.P. entitled "Taste", released in 2010. This EP is just that, a taste of what’s to come, a mere glimpse into the future as the Niche emerges with their strong yet haunting vocals, intricate sound scape, and driving beats.
The music is a sonic representation of the bands curiosities, passions, evolving philosophies, and hedonistic lifestyle. Diving into mystery, sexuality, religion, and love, the band strives to give the listener a vivid experience. One that is guided by strange and dynamic sound fields, dramatic vocal expression, and a pace that will immerse the listener in an imaginary world of visual enchantment.
Their first single entitled "Big Bad Man" is a glance into self discovery, self loathing, and self change. The man depicted recreates himself into the dark and beautiful person that he's always wanted to be.
With the creation of "Big Bad Man" came the group’s first music video. Teaming up with cinematographers Craig and Collin Clark, the Niche dove into the project with an almost youthful exuberance. Shortly after completing music video in the winter of 2010 the Niche was awarded 2nd place at the 208 music film festival. This video is the first of many creative film pieces to come.
The E.P. entitled "Taste" is the only recording released by the Niche thus far. They have spent the best part of 2010 honing their craft and are working hard to complete a full album during the winter of 2011. The conception of this album will be the true catharsis of the Niche.
