Introduction
[edit]This will be a collection of accounts and other writings describing the physical features or general looks of royals and nobles who ruled over different polities or who made an impact in history.
How They Looked
[edit]- James I of Aragon. "...Desclot describes him as taller than most, with athletic framce and reddish-blond hair, a man cordial to everyone and adventurously bold...." [3]
- Joanna I of Naples was possessed of "...a gentle and generous temperament, a graceful person, a beautiful and engaging countenance, and he most captivating manners." [4]
- John Tzimisces: "...Handsome, though short, strong and well-known for his valiance and aptitude in archery, spearmanship and riding...." [1]
- Louis, Prince of Taranto, 2nd husband of Joanna I of Naples, was "...a brave, accomplished, and very handsome prince, who, for his singular beauty, acquired the name of Phoebus, od the Day...." [5]
- Margaret of Navarre, Queen of Sicily was "[a]ccording to the Italian historian La Lumia 'still beautiful, proud and light' at old age."
