- Boniface of Montferrat (1150-1207), King of Thessalonika. "...He was killed by a small Bulgarian raiding party, his head being sent as a trophy to Kalojan Tsar of Bulgaria...." [1]
- Constantine Phocas, brother of Nichephorus II Phocas, was killed in 949 in the battle of Germanikea against the Hamdanid Arabs. [2]
