Biography
Dr. Hafiz Abdur Rahman is a professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the North South University in Bangladesh. He has more than twenty-five years experience in teaching and research. Before joining NSU, Dr. Rahman had taught at UBC, Purdue University and Islamic University of Technology. His expertise include: modeling and simulation of data communication and electrical power systems networks; embedded control and monitoring systems; parallel and distributed computing; security and reliability of Internet enabled systems; data processing and decision support systems. He has pioneering work on critical infrastructures that forms the basis for understanding of “Cyber Interdependency” as we know today. As an engineer, Dr. Rahman had been one of the important team members for some of the very prestigious engineering projects, which include: security and emergency preparedness simulation of 2010 Winter Olympic (2009-2010) that was held in Vancouver, development of critical infrastructures’ simulation system (I2Sim) for the Government of Canada (2005-2008) and have designed and commissioned computer networks for the Prime Minister’s Office and the Planning Commission of the Government of Bangladesh (1995-1997).
Dr. Rahman is an elected member of the executive committee of IEEE P2030.4 (Smart Grid) standardization working group and the chair for the safety sub-committee of the WG. He is a registered professional engineer in Canada, a senior member of IEEE and a fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh. He received his BSEEE degree in 1988 from Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), Bangladesh.
